“I wasn't particularly keen on being outside. Given the choice I would have been inside most of the time, thank you very much. However my mum expected me to be outside lots and I wasn't allowed to hang around inside. I hated the cold. However I did enjoy dressing up in all the rain gear on rainy days and jumping in the puddles. It was a yellow jacket I had with a matching sou'wester hat.”
“Up on a mountain where I get the view of the sea, wild cliffs and beaches. Then you get the best of all worlds. Some days your head is in the clouds which is quite remarkable when you stop and think about it. It's the closest thing you get to being on the horizon where land meets sky. When you get a view on a clear day, it's a free wild movie happening in front of your eyes.”
“Experiment with little ideas and help them grow. Keep on dreaming and asking "What if...?" or "How about...?" It makes for a much more interesting life and keeps your outdoor work creative.”

“Being outside makes maths feel real rather than disconnected from our daily lives. Aside from mud pies and puddles, the cognitive process involved means it is not a smooth linear pathway of learning but rather an interconnected network. Children need time to make sense of abstract mathematical ideas through experiential processes along with opportunities to ponder, enjoy and discuss concepts encountered. Lots of play along the way is a must.” - Messy Maths, Juliet Robertson
