Muddy Faces: the original Forest School shop. Supporting outdoor practitioners and promoting the benefits of Forest School and outdoor play and learning since 2007.
Muddy Faces director Liz Edwards has her roots outdoors. She has worked in the UK and internationally as an environmental educator, outdoor pursuits instructor, youth development worker and mountain leader.
Liz has been involved in Forest School since 2000, becoming a Forest School practitioner in 2001 and going on to set up one of the first Forest School training companies.
Muddy Faces: the original Forest School shop
While she was running the Forest School training company Liz realised many of her students were struggling to buy the kit they required. There were no shops in existence at that time that were focused on supporting Forest School, so Liz started sourcing kit for her students.
She launched Muddy Faces in 2007 to support Forest School leaders and outdoor practitioners by providing the resources and practical information they needed.
Since then, a number of retailers have described themselves as the original Forest School shop. While some may have been established businesses for longer, their focus was on different markets at the time. Muddy Faces was among the first to specialise specifically in supporting the Forest School community, helping to shape and serve the sector as it grew.
