Why is Forest School so important to Muddy Faces?

Our roots in Forest School

Muddy Faces director Liz Edwards has her roots outdoors. She has worked in the UK and internationally as an environmental educator, outdoor pursuits instructor, youth development worker and mountain leader.

Liz has been involved in Forest School since 2000, becoming a Forest School practitioner in 2001 and going on to set up one of the first Forest School training companies.

Muddy Faces: the original Forest School shop

While she was running the Forest School training company Liz realised many of her students were struggling to buy the kit they required. There were no shops in existence at that time that were focused on supporting Forest School, so Liz started sourcing kit for her students.

She launched Muddy Faces in 2007 to support Forest School leaders and outdoor practitioners to access the resources and helpful information they needed.

Since this time a number of shops have developed marketing that says they are the original Forest School shop. Although they may have been trading for longer, they were focusing on different markets - none were specifically catering for Forest Schools until a few years later.

Not just a shop

The Muddy Faces team is known for commitment to and expertise in Forest School and outdoor play and learning, and its continued support of the outdoor practitioner community.

Our shop is full of kit & resources that has been recommended, tried and tested by practitioners working outdoors with children of all ages.

Many of our products have been designed and created by us in response to practitioners requests, including the famous Dragons Sneeze, light weight fire retardant shelters, campfire grills and many more.
