The Hedgehog Pledge

This Hedgehog Awareness Week, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society is inviting everyone to take The Hedgehog Pledge - seven simple actions to help hedgehogs thrive. Pick just one, or try one each day!

  1. Hedgehog Highways – make a 13cm gap in fences so hogs can roam freely
  2. Wild spaces – log piles and leaf heaps provide food and shelter
  3. Check before you cut – always check for hedgehogs before strimming or mowing
  4. Go organic – ditch pesticides to protect the food chain
  5. Net safely – keep nets raised 30cm off the ground so hogs don't get tangled
  6. Provide water – keep a fresh water source topped up year-round
  7. Become a spotter – volunteer to classify trail camera images for the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme
