Event Details

Trees Are The Key Awareness Week runs each March in the week containing 21 March - the UN's International Day of Forests. It is an initiative from The Word Forest Organisation, a UK registered charity that plants trees in Kenya while supporting local communities through education and women's empowerment.

The week celebrates everything trees do for our world - cleaning the air, regulating water, anchoring soil, supporting biodiversity and providing habitat for countless species. But it also celebrates something that outdoor practitioners know well: what trees do for people. Time amongst trees restores, grounds and inspires. The week is a chance to deepen that connection - exploring tree identification, woodland ecology, the role of ancient trees, forest bathing or simply encouraging young people to look up, slow down and notice what's around them.

Schools, community groups, forest school practitioners and outdoor educators are all warmly invited to get involved — whether that's running tree-themed sessions, joining the Sapling Hunt, sharing what you're doing on social media with #TreesAreTheKey, or simply using the week as a prompt to get outside and under the canopy.
