An annual celebration of the power of storytelling and story sharing
Organised by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups, National Share‑a‑Story Month is a nationwide celebration of storytelling and children’s books. Running throughout May each year, it encourages children, families and communities to connect through stories and develop a love of reading.
Across the UK, schools, libraries and community groups take part by sharing stories in creative ways – from informal story sessions to larger events and activities. The focus is on the simple but powerful act of reading aloud and enjoying stories together.
For outdoor settings, storytelling can be woven naturally into the day – sharing stories around a campfire, creating story trails, or inviting children to tell and act out their own tales in outdoor spaces.
Each year has a different theme (announced closer to the time), so it’s worth checking the official page for updates and new ideas.
