The International Day of Peace encourages people, communities and organisations around the world to take part in activities that promote understanding, cooperation and respect.
The 2026 theme, Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day recognises the role that ordinary people play in creating peaceful communities through everyday actions, relationships and care for others, the everyday architects of peace - people laying the groundwork for stability and building a lasting peace from the ground up.
Peace isn’t just built in conference rooms - it is shaped by everyone, everywhere, every day #InvestInPeace.
Outdoor spaces can provide opportunities for children and young people to connect, cooperate and build positive relationships through shared experiences, play and learning. Taking time to listen, work together and care for people and places can all contribute to a culture of peace.
WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE?
The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.
