Event Details

Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.

There are technically no set dates for Children's Book Week, meaning you're free to celebrate this whenever suits you! However, in the UK, this year the event takes place over two weeks: the 5-11 May and the 9-15 November.

Books: Get Curious!

This year's theme, Books: Get Curious!, celebrates curiosity, imagination and discovery through reading. It encourages children to explore new ideas, ask questions and use books as a starting point for learning about the world around them.

Resources

The organisers have released a large set of free 2026 resources including posters, bookmarks, activity pages, reading logs, multilingual materials and a Curiosity Book Club.

More info

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, young people across the country participate by attending events at schools, libraries, bookstores, celebrating at home, and engaging with book creators both online and in person.
