Level 3 ITC Outdoor and Paediatric First Aid - Oxfordshire

This course is designed for Outdoor practitioners including Forest School Leaders, Outdoor Coaches, Therapeutic practitioners, Youth workers, Scout and D of E Leaders, etc. and covers a range of first aid skills required to deal with injury and illness in a more remote environment.

On completion of this 16-hour/ 2-day course learners will also gain a Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid to meet their workplace requirements in Early Years and school settings.

​The skills and knowledge learnt on this course are contextualised to outdoor settings and will be applied to adults, children and infants. There are lots of practical based scenarios to practise and apply your skills in the brilliant wooded setting of the Sylva Wood Centre.

Event Details

The course is externally regulated, Ofsted recognised and is awarded by ITC.

The course includes:

  • Managing own safety in an outdoor first aid incident
  • Managing group safety in an outdoor setting
  • Assessment procedure of a casualty including primary and secondary survey
  • Managing an unconscious casualty
  • Protecting a casualty from the environment – Hypothermia and hyperthermia
  • Safe airway positions
  • CPR protocols for cardiac arrest and drowning
  • Use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators)
  • Treatment for bleeding and shock
  • First Aid for Burns
  • Dealing with fractures, head, neck and spine injuries
  • Medical emergencies: seizures, anaphylaxis, strokes, diabetes and asthma
  • Bites, stings and outdoor related infections such as Weil’s Disease
  • Triage and incident management in the outdoor setting

This course will be delivered by Sarah Walker, an experienced teacher-trainer, Scout Leader, Forest School Leader and Endorsed Forest School Trainer with extensive experience of first aid, both indoors and in the great outdoors.

Both days run from 9am-6pm (total 16 hours training).

Light refreshments are provided, but please bring lunch (there's a small kitchen with fridge, microwave, toaster, etc.) and plenty of warm/waterproof layers so you are comfortable outside during scenarios.
